U.S. Army’s Online Career Tests - Student Research Foundation

Did you know that the U.S. Army’s website is home to a strong array of career exploration tests?

They are designed to help students test the interests and aptitudes that best qualify them for different specialties and roles if they enroll in the U.S. Army. As such, the tests could be classified as recruitment tools. But after taking the tests, we found that they are good, free online career evaluation tests that can be useful for students who fall into two categories . . .

Students who are contemplating entering the U.S. military.
Students who are not currently considering the military, but who are simply interested in taking online quizzes that help them discover careers that might be right for them. (Students in this group would also benefit from taking other career and aptitude tests in their high school guidance offices and online.)

What Career Assessment Quizzes Does the Army Website Offer?

Two Army career screening tests. One asks students about their interests and then recommends possible Army careers. Example: Do you prefer working indoors or outdoors? The other recommends careers after asking students to indicate their skills. Examples: Changing the oil in a car, practicing a martial art. Note that students can take these quizzes without registering on the site.
The Army Career Explorer tool. Targeted to students who are close to deciding to enter the Army, this interactive tool helps students explore “hundreds of careers” that are available in the Army. Note that to use this service, students must register and create an account.

What Careers Can a Young Person Start in the Army?

Again, there are hundreds of them that the Army conveniently groups into the categories Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics – STEM!

Plus, the Army website lists a number of other career specialties, some of which are surprising. There are roles in the Army for musicians, chaplains, lawyers and future lawyers, and linguists. And of course, there are lots of careers in computer science and security.

Whether you or the students you know are contemplating enlisting in the Army or another service branch, the Army website offers some interesting and useful tools. It is worth exploring.
