An Essential Way for Classroom Teachers to Connect

What TeachersConnect is and why you should join our community

At first glance, it seems that classroom teachers are among the most connected professionals anywhere. They have meetings with other teachers in their subject area, with other teachers in their school or school system, with parents, and more. They even meet their peers at conventions.

Why Teachers Need to Build Relationships with Outside Teachers (and support organizations)

Yes, teachers connect, connect and connect. But if you are a teacher, you need to network and communicate with teachers who work outside your school system through an organization like TeachersConnect.

By connecting with outside teachers in this way, you will enjoy a deeper level of support, because you can discuss a wider range of issues . . .

  • Free from concerns about politics, you freely communicate about problems that exist in your school or school system – issues you can never air when meeting with the people you work with.
  • You can ask and gain insights about where your career is going and your professional development – again, issues that you would hesitate to discuss with your colleagues or supervisors.
  • The right people can alert you to jobs and career opportunities. We all know that most jobs are filled when “somebody knows somebody.” That is another reason why connecting directly with teachers who are not your colleagues at work offers a valuable career asset.
  • You can stay aware of the newest technologies, publications, and other resources that are being used by the wider community of educators – information that can take a while to “filter down” to your school system and classroom.
  • You can get “market intelligence” from outsiders about how your school, municipality, or school system is regarded. The objective opinions you hear from outsiders provide needed perspectives for growing and building your career in teaching.
  • Meet and connect with educational organizations like ours who are available to support teachers and the work you do in the classroom. Tap into the resources the different organizations offer including: lesson planning tools, scholarships for your students, research on careers and college guidance ideas/suggestions or the occasional offer to help fund a classroom project.
